Phish - Undermind
âUndermindâ, Phishâs eleventh full-length studio album is now available on vinyl for the first time in a 2-LP set on JEMP Records. âUndermindâ was recorded at The Barn in Vermont by producer Tchad Blake with Pete Carini in February 2004 and mixed by Tchad in England at Real World Studios in March 2004. Additional recording spanning 2002-2004 was used for âScents And Subtle Sounds (Intro)â, âGrindâ, âand âUndermindâ with Ray Paczkowski doubling on Fender Rhodes for the title track. The majority of songs were written by Trey Anastasio and Tom Marshall, along with Scott Herman on âScents And Subtle Soundsâ and âUndermindâ. Page McConnell contributed âArmy Of Oneâ, Mike Gordon âAccess Meâ, and Jon Fishman âTomorrowâs Songâ. The instrumentals âMaggieâs Revengeâ and internet/vinyl bonus âTinyâ were excerpted from a full-band improvised 47-minute studio jam dubbed âHeadphones Jamâ. âSecret Smileâ included an eleven-piece string section arranged by Maria Schneider. The single âThe Connectionâ remains in occasional live rotation along with most of the album. Overall âUndermindâ is lush and evocative, with themes reflecting two decades of shared band experience. âUndermindâ was Phishâs last album on Elektra Records, with the band ultimately founding their own JEMP records in 2005. âUndermindâ was originally mastered for CD by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering and released by Elektra on June 15, 2004. Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering cut the lacquers for the 2025 vinyl, which was pressed in a numbered edition on 180g audiophile vinyl.
